suji meaning in marathiand Suji has the recipe for Halwa and variations of it.

Suji Halwa is also referred by the name of Rava Sheera as well as Rava Sheera within Western India and Rava Kesari in South India. The recipe is basically similar, with only a few ingredients changing here and there.

Although semolina (or rava) is the main ingredient. In some variations there is milk instead of water, and is referred to"milk kesari. To enhance flavor, usually cardamom powder is added.

This halwa might be prepared to mark the auspicious day or for a celebration of pooja. It could be used as occasions like Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi or any other religious occasion held at home, or you just want to have dessert. It also makes a wonderful breakfast choice or dessert following dinner.

Since this is a simple fast recipe of halwa, there's no reason or time to cook it. I make sooji halwa frequently for use as a bhog or the naivedyam to serve to gods.

We prepare Suji Halwa in addition to puri for the Navami ceremony that is part of Navratri holiday. Kala chana is also prepared. On this day, we present kala chana, suji Halwa, along with puri to the tiny girls (kanjak) which symbolize the Mother Goddess.

The rava kesari , that is popularin South India usually has a synthetic orange color that is added. You can however create similar rava kesari using natural coloring agents like threads of saffron, or powdered saffron.

Saffron threads , or kesar, can also be added to a sooji halwa, like the one shown here. Saffron Suji Halwa.

In addition to this halwa recipe I make various types of halwa recipe , too. I don't cook them all the time, but I do make them whenever we're having puja, or during times of celebration or just for a sweet snack.

I have shared numerous varieties of Halwa and you are able to look them up in this compilation that includes 28 Halwa recipe ideas..

Sooji Halwa Proportions

Sooji Halwa is typically made in large quantities on holidays or religious celebrations. If you want to make a large quantity and need to produce a large quantity, there's a certain proportion you have to stick to.

The ratio of suji to water for Ghee is 1:1:2:0.5 in the glass or cup measure. I slightly deviate from the ratio and include a bit of ghee, but less sugar.

  • Sugar - For 1 cup sooji (or the rava) I would recommend adding 2/3 or 3/4 cups of sugar. This means that the suji Halwa isn't as sweet or sweet. A cup sugar can give a very sweet flavor.
  • Ghee I also add 2/3 cup of Ghee per one cup suji. For me 2/3 cup is a sufficient amount of Ghee. Reduce or increase the amount of ghee according to your preference.
  • The water The recipe I've used has 2.5 cups of water to 1 Cup of Suji. However, you could add 2 cups water. The amount of water you add can be increased according to how good the flavor of the rava, and if you want a pudding-like smooth consistency.

Suji's ratio in relation to the ratio of water Ghee can be found to be 1:1:2:0.5 in a cup or glass measurement. I slightly off from this ratio and add less ghee as well as sugar.

  • Sugar For 1 cup of sooji, I would add 2/3 to 3/4 cups of sugar. Thus, the suji Halwa has less sweetness or is sweeter. 1 cup of sugar gives a very sweet taste.
  • Ghee I use 2/3 cups of ghee to each cup of suji. For me 2/3 cup is an adequate amount of ghee. Increase or lower the amount of ghee, based on the flavor you prefer.
  • water I have added 2.5 cups of water to 1 Cup of Suji. However, you could add 2 cups of water. The quantity of water can be increased depending on how good the flavor of the rava depending on the consistency of a pudding.
